Trainee of the Month – Misaal Mehboob
Misaal is a member of the Ashkar Lab. Her research focuses on investigating the cytotoxicity of expanded NK and CD70-targeting CAR-NK cells against brain tumour cells, specifically glioblastoma and medulloblastoma. Misaal became fascinated with NK cells and their potential in cancer therapy, she joined Ashkar Lab in her undergrad and is continued exploring the intersection on NK cell immunotherapy and cancer. In her free time, Misaal enjoys reading, spending time with her family and friends and spoiling her cat.
1. What is your current research focus?
My research is focused on investigating the cytotoxicity of expanded NK and CD70-targeting CAR-NK cells against brain tumour cells, specifically glioblastoma and medulloblastoma.
2. What made you interested in pursuing cancer research?
My interest in cancer research grew from my interest in innate immunology and its promising use in therapy. Upon taking an undergraduate immunology course, I became fascinated with NK cells, particularly the innovative ways they can be harnessed to target cancer. Out of this intrigue, I joined the Ashkar lab as an undergraduate student and have enjoyed exploring the fascinating intersection of NK cell immunotherapy and cancer since then.
3. What are your interests outside the CDCR and the lab?
Outside of the lab, I enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, and playing with my overly pampered cat.
