Trainee of the Month – Yujin Suk
Yujin is an MD/PhD student in the Singh Lab. Her research focuses on developing novel therapeutic modalities in medulloblastoma. She was inspired by the work in the Singh Lab to pursue becoming a clinician scientist. In her spare time, Yujin enjoys travelling, snowboarding, and spending time with her husky, Millie!
1. What is your current research focus?
My current research focuses on developing novel therapeutic modalities for aggressive forms of medulloblastoma, the most common type of malignant pediatric brain cancer.
2. What made you interested in pursuing cancer research?
Like so many others, my family has been directly impacted by cancer and how it inevitably overcomes our current standard of care. I was inspired by the translational nature of biomedical research being performed in the Singh laboratory and decided to pursue a clinician scientist route to investigate novel therapeutic avenues that may be more effective in treating patients battling recurrent or treatment-refractory cancer that no longer respond to standard of care.
3. What are your interests outside the CDCR and the lab?
In the summer, I enjoy traveling and cafe hopping, and in the winter, I attempt to snowboard as much as possible, but my main job outside the lab is getting home in time to walk my husky, Millie.
